The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Who will be honoured 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virgins. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
