The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And couches raised up. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
