The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and extended shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those of the right hand. 38
