The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And extended shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
