The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and shade extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
