The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from the latter. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and amid the extended shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
