The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
