The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
