The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 on raised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virginal, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
