The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing exalting. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
