The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
