The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and continuous shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
