The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And shade extended 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 and made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
