The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and shade extended, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
