The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the latter. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
