The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those of the right hand. 38
