The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those of the right hand. 38
