The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
