The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and serried acacias, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and gushing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
