The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virginal, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for the people of the right hand 38
