The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 on lavish couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and spreading shade 30 Gushing water, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
