The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
