The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And raised couches; 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
