a large group of the earlier people 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 "We are ruined, 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
