A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
