These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
