a good many of olden times, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 "We are ruined, 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
