A company of the former peoples 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 "We are ruined, 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
