A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 and a good many of later times. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
