These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and a good many of later times. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all the former and the latter.” 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 “We have been penalised; 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
