A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
