A crowd of earlier generations 39 and a good many of later times. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
