A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
