a large throng from the ancients, 39 and a good many of later times. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 "We are ruined, 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
