A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
