a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
