A large group from the earlier generations. 39 and a good many of later times. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
