a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
