A large group from the earlier generations. 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And they used to say, "When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?" 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 And say: "We have fallen into debt; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
