a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
