A crowd of earlier generations 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all the former and the latter.” 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
