a multitude of the ancients, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they used to say, "When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?" 47 And our forefathers [as well]?" 48 Proclaim, "Without doubt all - the former and the latter." 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 "In fact, we were unfortunate!" 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Consider the fire that you strike. 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
