Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
