A multitude of those of old 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
