A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Therefore proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
