A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
