A throng of the ancients 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 "We are ruined, 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
