a multitude of the ancients, 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
