a large group of the earlier people 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
