A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
